Unedited Motion Picture Soundtrack from M-G-Ms Athena Movie Musical released on Rhino Handmade Label. (This CD Not Available on this site - see below)
In 1954, Victor Marchese was under contract to M-G-M and picked to be the singing voice for actor Edmond Purdom in the upcoming musical titled Athena. The movie starred Jane Powell, Vic Damone, Debbie Reynolds and Edmond Purdom. The musical score was done by two longtime Hollywood score writers, Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine. A beautiful duet featuring Victor and the very popular actress/singer Jane Powell titled Love Can Change the Stars was recorded but was unfortunately cut from the movie before its cinematic release. Audiences would never hear the duet, and Victor's vocal debut in the movies would remain on the cutting room floor. Fifty years later, Rhino Records with the assistance of TCM (Turner Classic Movies) releases the movie soundtrack to Athena and includes all outtakes (including Victor's duet with Jane Powell)!
